Everyday there are many people have to be sent to hospital because of sick. There are many kinds of disease can happened to human. Most of the disease which can spread fast and cause many effects is disease that caused by virus. Some of the diseases had become epidemic and caused death to a hundred people.

Setiap saat rumah sakit tidak pernah berhenti menerima pasien. Sebagian besar pasien harus dirawat di rumah sakit karena serangan virus penyebab penyakit. Penyakit-penyakit karena virus ini telah menjadi ancaman bagi  kehidupan manusia.

Because of that, SMPM 12 GKB Gresik use Virus Alert as one of the Science Project title.   In this project, students do some activities to understand about kinds of dangerous disease caused by virus. This project also aimed to build the students awareness to avoid their self and people surrounding from diseases caused by virus

Berawal dari hal tersebut, Tim Science Project kelas VIII mengambil topik “Waspada Virus”. Siswa melakukan berbagai kegiatan yang dapat menambah pemahamannya tentang penya

kit karena virus, meliputi sifat biologis virus, bahaya penyakit karena virus, bagaimana cara penularan, bagaimana cara menghindari penyakit karena virus, dan bagaimana cara pengobatannya. Kepedulian siswa tentang penyakit karena virus diharapkan dapat timbul sebagai hasil dari kegiatan ini, sehingga siswa dapat menghindarkan diri dan orang-orang disekitarnya dari penyakit karena virus.

At the first week the students get overview about the biological aspect of virus and some kinds of dangerous disease caused by virus. After that, students works in group to explore more about the virus, the danger of the virus if it infected human, how the way it transmitted, how to avoid this virus,  and how to heal the disease caused by this virus. Every class are divided in to five different virus: Avian influenza, Swine flu, dengue Hemorrhagic fever, hepatitis, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus

Pada minggu pertama, siswa mendapat gambaran sekilas tentang aspek biollogis virus dan beberapa jenis  penyakit karena virus. Kegiatan dilanjutkan dengan eksplorasi lebih lanjut tentang virus oleh siswa secara berkelompok. Terdapat  puluhan penyakit karena virus, tetapi dalam kegiatan ini, hanya lima jenis penyakit karena virus yang dieksplorasi, yaitu:  flu burung, flu babi, demam berdarah, hepatitis, dan Human Immunodeficiency Virus.  

In the following week, the group make poster and leaflet dealing with their topic. Then every group gives explanation to the other group about their topic, so that every student knows about the five different diseases. The Students then should give explanation to another student from different grade. Every group should give explanation to at least 10 different students. They may also give explanation to the teachers or another school member.

Minggu selanjutnya siswa melakukan pembuatan poster dan brosur secara berkelompok tentang jenis penyakit yang sudah ditentukan. Setelah poster selesai dibuat, tiap kelompok mempresentasikan hasil kerjanya pada kelompok lain dalam satu kelas sehingga tiap siswa dapat memiliki pemahaman tentang kelima penyakit karena virus tersebut. Presentasi ini juga menjadi latihan sebelum siswa melakukan penyuluhan pada warga sekolah.

At the third week, students are ordered to give explanation to the resident surrounding the school. There are four places taken: In GKB circle. Enggano junction, Yosowilangon Village, and shops around Kalimantan Street.  The location are chosen because in those area there are many people  gathered and doing their activities, such as shopping or simply take a walk. Not only giving explanation to the pedestrian, the students also giving leaflets to people passing by.

Minggu ketiga yang merupakan minggu terakhir pada proyek “Virus Alert”. Siswa  melakukan kegiatan diluar sekolah. Siswa melakukan penyuluhan pada masyarakat pada empat lokasi sekitar perumahan GKB. Empat lokasi yang dipilih adalah bundaran GKB, Perempatan jalan Enggano, Desa Yosowilangon, dan pertokoan sekitar jalan Kalimantan. Lokasi dipilih karena banyak masyarakat yang melakukan aktivitas disana. Selain melakukan penyuluhan pada pejalan Kaki, siswa juga memberikan brosur pada pengendara kendaraan tentang bahaya penyakit karena virus.
